Market Outlook: Canary Seed vs. Other Crops – Chuck Penner, Left Field Commodity Research

The Canary Seed Development Commission of Saskatchewan was established in 2006 following meetings and consultations that showed majority support for a producer levy on canary seed sales.

Governed by canary seed producers, the CSDCS has successfully achieved novel food approval for glabrous de-hulled canary seed in both Canada and the U.S. It’s hoped that human food usage will increase the overall market for canary seed in the years ahead.

The commission also funds canary seed breeding and agronomic work.
